Award winning violinist and a native of Kilkenny, Maria is a member of the Banbha Quartet, supported by the National String Quartet Foundation, the Marble Collective and performs in Duo partnership with Dr. Gabriela Mayer. Maria also teaches at the MTU Cork School of Music.
In 2010, Maria moved to London to join Southbank Sinfonia; there she was awarded the position of Leader, and chosen to perform in their chamber music showcase at Wigmore Hall. Over the following ten years, Maria worked with some of the UK's most prestigious orchestras, including the BBC Concert and Symphony Orchestras, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Maria enjoyed an eclectic mix of orchestral performing in London, from Symphonies with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, to performing at the Proms with The Jacksons and currently enjoys performing regularly with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra Ireland, Camerata Ireland, and Musici Ireland.
During her time in London Maria also toured the world with many of the worlds leading orchestras and chamber music ensembles, playing in the most prestigious concert halls including Carnegie Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, the Shostakovich Philharmonic Grand Hall St. Petersburg, and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London.
As soloist Maria has performed the concertos of Mozart, Locatelli, Beethoven, and Vivaldi with various orchestras. Her work as an Orchestral leader has led to a wide variety of performances over the years, under the batons of Sir Charles MacKerras, Barry Wordsworth and Nicholas Cleobury, from leading Scheherazade with The Orchestra of the Arts London, to a UK tour leading the Orchestra for singer Dionne Warwick.
Maria is so grateful for the wonderful teachers she had to good fortune to study with, including Philip Edmondson, Maeve Broderick, Geraldine O’ Grady and Ruxandra Petcu-Colan, and Emilian Piedicuta.
Maria is a recipient of the RDS Music Bursary, winner of the Heineken Violin Competition and she was awarded the Agility Bursary by the Arts Council of Ireland in 2021. Maria was the winner of the Heineken Violin Competition in 2010, and winner of the Aileen Gore Cup and RDS Music Bursary in 2008. She was a recipient of the Arts Council of Ireland Agility Award in 2021, and awarded the Kilkenny Arts Office EDI Bursary in 2024, striving to make classical music more accessible. Maria was delighted to acquire a new Noel Burke bow in 2025 with generous support from the Music Network Music Capital Scheme, the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, and The Arts Council.
